Football News – Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has claimed yet another piece of silverware after he was awarded a 10th consecutive Swedish Player of the Year award.

Ibrahimovic has been awarded his nation’s top footballing award on 11 occasions, with his first coming back in 2005 with former Arsenal winger Freddie Ljungberg the only other player to win the award since.

And the Swedish Football Association has announced plans to build a statute in Ibrahimovic’s honour outside of Stockholm’s Friends Arena.

“It feels unreal. Many are thinking ‘Why him?’ and so on, but after all the hard work over 15 years in the national team and 20 years in my club career, it feels like it’s being appreciated,” Ibrahimovic said in his acceptance speech.

“You usually get this after you die, but I still feel alive. When I die, this (statue) will live on forever.”

Ibrahimovic missed United’s draw with Arsenal on the weekend through suspension, but appears likely to return against West Ham United this weekend.

The 35-year-old has scored seven goals in 13 appearances since making the move to Old Trafford at the start of this season.
